NCAT Webinar Series: February, March, April and May 2014

NCAT’s spring 2014 series of free webinars begins in February. You must register for each webinar, but there is no registration fee. Registration is limited to 100 participants for each webinar. After registering you will receive a confirmation email containing information on how to join the webinar. All webinars will open 30 minutes prior to the starting time. After a presentation, the presenters will be available to answer questions and provide additional specifics about their redesigns.

Getting Started Webinar on February 11, 2014 at 1 pm

Getting Started on Course Redesign is a webinar for those of you who are thinking about beginning a large-scale course redesign project. This two-hour-long webinar will provide participants the opportunity to learn about how redesign efforts have begun at both four- and two-year institutions. NCAT Redesign Scholar Teresa Overton from Northern Virginia Community College will describe how their redesign of developmental math, impacting almost 10,000 students, got started and how they resolved problems that arose. NCAT vice president Carolyn Jarmon will give examples of what has been experienced by four-year institutions in a variety of academic disciplines as they began their redesigns. Discipline-based Webinars: March, April and May

Each hour-long webinar will feature an NCAT Redesign Scholar, the project leader of a highly successful course redesign, describing the redesign project with a particular focus on its distinguishing characteristics. The following topics and speakers are planned:

  • March 11, 2014 at 1 pm EDT: Redesigning Developmental Reading at Northeast State Technical Community College presented by Xiaoping Wang, featuring the effective use of the Emporium Model (typically used in developmental math) in a developmental reading course. Click here to register.
  • April 8, 2014 at 1 pm EDT: Redesigning General Psychology at the University of New Mexico presented by Gordon Hodge, featuring the use of mastery quizzing. Click here to register.
  • May 13, 2014 at 1 pm EDT: Redesigning College Algebra at the University of Central Florida presented by Tammy Muhs, featuring large-scale redesign in a course of 4,000+ students. Click hereto register.

Four additional webinars are planned for fall 2014: another Getting Started on Course Redesign as well as discipline-based webinars in Developmental math, Spanish and biology. All webinars will be recorded and made available on the NCAT website for viewing for up to one year after their initial occurrence.
