A few more tips as we continue to move through the semester as we move into week 4.

(2) Wondering how to improve your current courses? You could try a 1&1 assessment. On one side of a sheet of paper, ask students to write the word KEEP then write one thing that they think you should keep doing that is helping their learning. On the other side of the sheet, ask students to write the word IMPROVE then write one thing that they think you should improve about the course that will help their learning. Review/tally/analyze the results then report back to students to let them know what you will and will not change and the reasons why. This activity provides pretty balanced feedback, allows each student to be heard, and helps you to make some changes while the course is still in progress. If you are a probationary faculty member, you could use an activity like this for the mid-term feedback required as part of the faculty-evaluation process.
(3) Another way to get feedback is to schedule a 5&5 assessment through the CTL. One of us will come into one of your classes for about 25-30 minutes to lead your students through activities to generate a list of 5 things you should keep doing and 5 suggestions for improvement. These lists are only shared with you. Email the CTL to set one up if you are interested. We recommend scheduling one between week 4 and 10 so that you can make changes in time to help students this semester. This also can be used as mid-term feedback for the faculty-evaluation process.
(4) Join us this week for our first fall Faculty Development Input Session on Wednesday from 10:00-11:00 in T2000 (the CTL room behind the coffee stand). Drop in for the whole meeting or part of it to help us plan CTL-sponsored activities including future faculty-development days.
